Observation-Keeping Score

Jack was confused-was he counting baskets or goals or home runs, or just plain wins? Notch by notch. Jack’s accountant brain  was adding up the points. Was this scrabble or monopoly or poker or blackjack or roulette? He had been thrown out of the casino-caught counting cards. How else to nourish his habit? What habit you ask? Does it matter. Jack screamed, “I just want to win so much that I don’t need to keep track.” And when he gets to the Purlie gates, is that higher power keeping score. Heaven’s gate or drag me to hell? A delicious choice. Jack feels empowered. A final outcome. A grand finale. A little life that didn’t keep score.
