The hit broadway musical Matilda has been made into a film on Netflix. Emma Thompson takes the evil teacher to soaring heights. The routine score and lackluster choreography threaten to derail this children’s classic where good triumphs over evil without getting syrupy. Matthew Warchus directs adequately and Alisha Weir as Matilda has a welcome feisty energy that help overcome a generic blandness to the material.
