Poem of the Week-Shoveling

Watching each griever

Take the long shovel

Dig into the mound of dirt

Jews saying goodbye.

Until the earth spread

Across the casket

Like lava from a volcano

My aunt threw herself

To the ground dangerously

Near the pit where my

Father rested.

Her scream of, “Why Mickey?”

Haunt me

Mom and sister stared into the abyss

With moisture flooding our eyes

Hoping to cleanse the twinges

Under our skin

My unlucky 13th Bar Mitzvah year

Two months ago

Hovered over me
