The migration of the black population from Jim Crow south to the north after WW2 is the premise of this scream your guts out series. In 1953 a black family from North Carolina moves to all white Compton. As if that isn’t enough of a nightmare, the show adds elements of hallucinations, ghosts, and monsters. The songs choices make Quentin Tarantino’s soundtracks look mediocre. Dinah Shore’s, “A Bicycle Built for Two”, The Fontane Sisters “Hearts of Stone” and The Delfonics “Ready or Not Here I Come” are just some of the treasures. The violence is impossible to watch but this is vital and gripping television.
