There Must Be A Pony

This television movie based on the James Kirkwood novel (he wrote the book for the musical A Chorus Line) adapted by Mart Crowley (he wrote the play Boys in the Band) and directed by Joseph Sargent is an engrossing melodrama. Liz is magnificent as a washed-up actress. Of course, at 46 she was still a stunner but I had thought she could no longer act at this point in her career. Chad Lowe plays her son with innocent gusto. The supporting cast include Robert Wagner, James Coco, and Ken Olin from Thirty Something. Mickey Rooney makes a short appearance too. But the love affair the camera has with Liz makes you long for old Hollywood. The film is available for streaming on you-tube for free. I have attached the link.
