Just Mercy is a showcase for actors Jamie Fox, Rob Morgan and Michael B. Jordan. The film is an affecting journey of overturning a wrongful imprisonment and death row sentence. This is familiar territory but with enough surprises to help us through this heartbreaking treatment of Black Americans. There is an electrocution scene that rips at your guts. The production is impeccable. The subtle score is a blessing. Each of the smaller roles are well cast. The stirring speeches and melodrama periodically try to derail the film but fail to prevent you from enjoying this movie. The repercussions of racism continue to be a blight in the United States. Just Mercy is part of a canon of revisiting our history that should help to prevent future infractions.
