This slow burn sci-fi is held together by Brad Pitt. He holds our attention as an astronaut abandoned by his astronaut father. Unfortunately, this nuanced performance is modulated to a single tone so that the audience isn’t emotionally involved. We are in 2001 territory with a dazed and confused ending. Fine special effects and a scene with a monstrous ape are almost enough to make this a worthwhile trip
