Singin’ In The Rain is an excellent recreation of the classic Gene Kelly film. The use of film is brilliant as a backdrop to the switch from silent to talking pictures. Superb dancing, evocative set design, and gorgeous costumes make this a worthwhile production. The orchestra beautifully brings the score to life. The performers handle the roles with pitch perfection. This is superior theater at a college venue-better than community theater and a step above the Carpenter Center shows. Running through Sunday April 14th at CSUN but moving to La Mirada on the 19th. One caveat on your expectation level would be that your memory of Gene Kelly, Donald O’Conner, Debbie Reynolds and Jean Hagen may impact your enjoyment of the musical. No one can come close to those icons but this production may be the closest you’ll get in your lifetime.
