Fosse/Verdon does the job of recreating the lives of these theater and cinema icons effectively. Michelle Williams nails Gwen Verdon magnificently. Sam Rockwell struggles with Fosse in the first episode. He has seven more chances to prove himself. Recreations of numbers from Sweet Charity and Cabaret are almost spectacular. It’s a monumental task to forget the original movie versions including All That Jazz which covered the same ground as this FX series. Don’t get me wrong. I am thrilled that the series was made. My expectation level was through the roof so I am trying to land gently.
