Michael Weller’s play “Fifty Words” is a devastating ripping apart of a marriage. The production at The Lounge hammers the audience with acting fireworks. Your allegiances between the husband and wife jockey throughout the two hour and ten-minute running time. These are complicated multi-faceted roles tackled by Olga Konstantulakis and Eric Larson with admirable results. The excellent set serves the audience well and gives the actors the freedom to create a rich reality. Michael Weller is a master at using dialogue to engage the melodrama authentically. Unfortunately spending time with two self-absorbed characters can be torturous. The actors never take us to a gasping edge to let us relish the ebb and flow. Still I wouldn’t discount the opportunity to witness this marriage dissection.
