Michael Shannon keeps turning in stellar performances and What They Had doesn’t disappoint. The leisurely pace of this dysfunctional Alzheimer family drama gives the exceptional cast time to peel back the layers of their characters. Despite a twist at the end, there is still a predictability that stifles the emotional resonance that we long for. First time director Elizabeth Chomko cuts her teeth with promise. Her next feature should improve her ranking.
