I saw this epic The Odyssey in 70m at the Sunset Landmark Theater. It was a long slog at almost three hours. Greek Gods have limited appeal to me. Of course, technically it was a masterpiece with brilliant staged set pieces with the cyclops, the Trojan horse, a sea storm etc. Anne Hathaway had her moments but it was Samantha Morton who steals the film as Circe. I have a beef about The Landmark Theater. I have hearing loss and need to see closed captions to follow the dialogue. Many times, it’s either not available for the film I’ve chosen or the closed caption isn’t working. But now there is a new wrinkle. The closed captions were working but they were five minutes after the dialogue was spoken. In other words, I had to wait 5 minutes before I saw the correct sub-titles. I complained and they did nothing to remedy the situation. Just I’m sorry. It makes me leary of attending another film there. Unfortunately they have the best price in town on Tuesday. Usually $7 for all shows but for The Odyssey it was $10-still a bargain compared to other venues. One final comment-can’t echo the problem many have complained about the sound being unbearably loud. It was fine for me. My hearing aids must be adjusting for the over the top sound.
