Back Porch was a superb play written by Eric Anderson that takes place during the filming of the William Inge play Picnic. Issac W. Jaya grippling plays an 18 year old boy that falls in love with a stranger played by Jordan Morgan. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised that there will ten people that left after intermission, but it was upsetting. Hard to believe there are still straight theater goers that can’t handle a tasteful seduction scene at the end of act 1. I was thinking how the play fits into the genre of Music Man, Summertime, and 110 In The Shade, where an “old maid” is transformed by a bad boy.
This was the last performance at The Victory Theater but I hope that the play has an afterlife.
