This is epic filmmaking by director Damien Chazelle about the early days of Hollywood. Babylon is edited with lightning speed and has brilliantly conceived stunning images. Margot Robbie shines as a Clara Bow character but Brad Pitt and Diego Calva struggle to find the guts in their portrayals. And of course Justin Hurwitz’s score is beyond magnificent. There isn’t a dull moment in this three hour film but it does lose its way in the last 20 minutes and it is emotionally vapid.
