This is the only filmed version of the Sondheim classic, rarely shown and rightly so because almost every choice director Hal Prince makes is wrong. Yet Elizabeth Taylor is gorgeous and even if she can’t sing, she is believable as Desiree. And seeing much of the original Broadway cast is a treat. And of course the costumes are sumptuous.
