Hanya Yanagihara writes in such a mesmerizing and deceptively easy-to-read manner that it makes this 703-page epic become a literary page-turner. She has rewritten American history by focusing on 1893, 1993, and what the future might look like in 2093. She never lets her rich characters rest–always being bombarded by the threat of disease, fighting against their demons and environment, and ultimately death. Yanagihara knew the pitfalls of following her beloved second novel, A Little Life, but with her creative genius, she came pretty damn close with To Paradise.
