Poem of the Week: Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)

Every 6 months

The suspicious biopsy

Gets tested

So those nasty cancer cells

Don’t rear their head

Beyond my normal range

Isn’t it swell that my prostate

Doesn’t swell?

It has a mind of its own

When it wants to send up flares

And that inflammation perked

Up my PSA numbers from 5 to 7

After Chanukah and Christmas

Uh Oh

So I retested and prayed

After a month

But the waiting game

Of seven days

Made me wretched

Until I got the news

That I returned to my

New normal of 5.6

No surprise that I cried
