This musical about the creator of “Rent” gives Andrew Garfield a challenging role where he not only does a perfect American accent but also has to sing. As a film it doesn’t resonate. Most of the music and lyrics are perfunctory and overall the movie feels amateurish. For broadway musical addicts cameos like Chita Rivera and an actor playing Steven Sondheim could possibly make it worth watching.
