The slow four hours of this dysfunctional marriage filled with a bunch of false endings film, does have some pleasures including evocative scenes of Paris, Venice and Barcelona. And just maybe the languid build gives us enough ammunition to feel satisfied at the conclusion. Although the flashbacks don’t always work where we are supposed to learn the origins of their love, as a critical examination of relationships it serves its purpose. With patience and low expectations, you’ll be deliciously refreshed by the ending.

I think we very much agree. In the end, I was a bit disappointed, but do love the actors. I kept referring back to Two For The Road which I think handled it better. I am not sure I was convinced with the ending.
