Poem of the Week-Summer Shower

The sky split in two

Dingy to the east

Crystalized in the west

The battering of rain

Against the picnic table

Soaked the potato salad and coleslaw

I was pelleted by stabbing moisture.

Face melted.

Hair follicles grabbed hold

Of the thunderclap.

Did I taste sour candy?

Shirt stuck to my chest.

Sneakers were flooded.

Water seeped into tighty whities

When the sun burst

worked overtime to dry

My drenched body,

I breathed a belly full of air

I searched for a rainbow

I let my eyes drag

Beams of light

Into my head

I stood still

Waiting to be changed.
