My only interest in seeing Palm Springs related to its screenplay being nominated for a Writer’s Guild award for best original screenplay of 2020. After watching the film, I had a scratching of my head fit trying to figure out how it achieved one of the highest honors during the award season. Surely it couldn’t be because it was a redo of the beloved Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day? For a comedy it elicited few laughs. It didn’t work as a rom com either. Cristin Milioti had a few ounces of charm while Andy Samberg took an irritating performance to the highest level of being obnoxious.
