The buzz around this Korean film had been through the roof so my expectations were off the charts. The acting was sublime with a special to nod as Han-Ye-Ri as the wife/mother giving a brilliantly nuanced performance. The Sag nomination for ensemble is well deserved. Unfortunately, the film has an antiseptic feel lacking any directorial subjectivity. The story of struggling immigrants should have given the viewer a rollercoaster of emotions. I guess I shouldn’t have expected another Parasite.
