If there was justice Riz Ahmed would win year end critic awards and at a minimum be nominated for an Oscar. With the pandemic the rules of engagement for films it’s anyone’s guess as to what top ten year end lists will look like or if there will even be an academy awards as planned in the Spring. Ahmed plays a musician who suddenly goes deaf. His expressive eyes tell a thousand stories. This is a harrowing disturbing film that reaches a brilliant form of spirituality by the end. Olivia Cooke, as his girlfriend, is excellent also.
