Patterns has a magnificent screenplay by Rod Serling. A scathing indictment of the corporate world that unfortunately still is relevant in 2020. The cast excels at Serling’s spare language. No one does paranoia better than Van Heflin as the new hire. With Beatrice Straight as his wife you know you are in for subtle fireworks. Add to that the under appreciated Elizabeth Wilson who takes the role of Heflin’s secretary into Shakespearean levels. Boris Kaufman’s spot on cinematography with Richard Sylbert’s art direction make this a joyous black and white viewing.
