This 1996 PBS movie Rasputin-Dark Servant of Mystery– is an excellent historical drama starring a superb Alan Rickman as Rasputin. A young Ian Mc McLellan as Nicholas and Gretta Sachi as Alexandra both provide stupendous support. With gorgeous sets and a fascinating story about this charlatan who cured the prince from his blood disease is riveting up to a point. The cliched masterpiece theater elements threaten to destroy the film. Rasputin is far superior to the 1970’s Nicholas and Alexandra film. The powerful ending is devastating.
