I loved the novel I Know this Much is True by Wally Lamb. One of those rare horrifically long books that never flagged and deserved to be 900 pages. Its been adapted on HBO as a limited series. Mark Ruffalo plays twin brothers brilliantly. But this is rough viewing not only because of the depressing subject matter of schizophrenia but because of clumsy directing and pacing. You’d think with a supporting cast that includes Melissa Leo, Rose O’Donnell, Juliette Lewis, Archie Panjabi, and Katherine Hahn; how could this film go off the rails. Yet just when you want to turn it off, there will be a plot revelation that piques your curiosity. And of course, for those of you that are allergic to long books, this is a good way to experience the world of Wally Lamb. Who knows, you might be brave enough to read one of his of somewhat shorter books.
