Back to life is Showtime’s answer to Fleabag. After being incarcerated for eighteen years Miri is released back into her old neighborhood. She begins the journey of adjusting to parents, boyfriend and friends. She has to deal with employment and community back lash. Yes, we’ve been down this rabbit hole before but by setting the show in England gives us a unique perspective. And it keeps surprising us with unexpected dialogue that is always grounded despite how outrageous it comes accross. There is a poignance mixed with humor that makes for compelling viewing. Even if it doesn’t hit the highpoints of Fleabag, it’s a welcome addition to the Showtime canon.
