The American Youth Symphony Brass Ensemble serenaded us at the Laemmle Live monthly concert. Forrest Johnston and Tyler Norris handled their trumpets with stunning ease. Valerie Ankeney haunted us with her French horn. Michael Dolin fulfilled all the brilliant sounds of the trombone. And Errol Rhoden made his tuba sound heavenly. We started with the Cancona per sonare No by Gabrielli.Followed by Bach’s Contrapunctus , then Cheetham’s Scherzo and ending the first section with the Ewald Quintet. The glorious West Side Story selections sound magnificent as the brass ensemble ripped through Maria, Tonight, One Hand One Heart and I Feel Pretty. Even the obligatory Holiday tunes sounded refreshing as the concert came to a close.
