SpongeBob the Musical was on Broadway a few years back and now Nickelodeon is showing a live version. Similar to the live presentations of Jesus Christ Superstar, Sound of Music, and Peter Pan on prime-time stations. The score is snappy and clever. Yes, the story is sophomoric but occasionally there is subversive dialogue. It you relax and go with the flow; the musical will transport you back to childhood. Voices and dancing soar. There is a 50-50 chance that you’ll be cheered by this seemingly mindless entertainment.
