Bartlett Sher is a genius Broadway director. His 2015 revival of King and I was sumptuous Shakespearean high drama that reaches operatic proportions. Each element of Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s masterpiece has been stripped to its core and then reinvented. And it packs punch hitting emotional- tears at the conclusion. The dance ballet sequences are masterful. Kelli O’ Hara is magnificent as Anna along with a refreshing take by Ken Watanabe as the King. This PBS Great Performances should be available for free on demand for the next five days. Don’t miss it.

I wanted to see it when it streamed in movie theaters last summer and I missed it. I’m going to find it on PBS right now! Thanks for the review and heads up!
