It is clear that the only reason this HBO limited series exists is to give Helen Mirren a chance to add Catherine the Great to her canon of great ladies she has played. You expect stunning production values. But you don’t appreciate stuffy period costume drama dialogue. This may be a guilty pleasure for some but I won’t participate in the remaining three episodes.
