Observations-Fiddler in Yiddish-Updated including Fresh Air interview

Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish takes this classic musical war horse and cuts it down to a bursting emotional reckoning. The augmenting English translation projected on the sides of the stage makes this universal story a deeper experience. Joel Grey directs with quiet powerful strokes that periodically burst through to your tear ducts. Despite the bare-bones production values and small band, this is a brilliant theatre. The gung-ho cast wipes away memories of previous versions. This sacred jewel is full of treasures.
