Carly Rae Jepsen gave the world her latest fifteen songs on Friday with “Dedicated”. Rumor has it that she writes over two hundred songs for each album and proceeds to pick the finest. We know she is the master of pop hooks and this new set doesn’t disappoint. “Julien” kicks off the cd and breathes life into the lyric “But all your colors are still dancing in my mind.” On “No drug like Me” she makes us believe “If you make me open up, I’ll tell only the truth.” If you listen closely, you’ll realize this is transcending pop. Her infectious joyful rendering moves us to a greater truth. “Now that I found You” resonates with the line “You know me way too well to keep it complicated.” “Want You In My Room” is a blisteringly produced up tempo ballad. I love “Everything He Needs Me”. How refreshing to listen to her taking care of her lover with “But when he can’t sleep, I understand Like pressure points my love can ease him in my hand.” Carly has the pulse of all phases of relationships. “Happy Not Knowing” when she sings “I’m sure it’s nothing but some heartburn, baby. And I’m happy not knowing.” She riffs through “I’ll be your girl” beautifully. On “Too Much” she takes her vulnerability to the max. There is a food comfort feel to her music. Just when you think she is repeating herself; she comes through with a gripping innocence on “The Sound” and “Automatically in Love”. On “Feels Right” Carly shares her genius with “Electric Guest”. The grand finale is “Party for One”. The slick arrangement pulls you in with a stunning background sound and lets you ease out of this pleasure fest.
