Nicky Silver’s “Too Much Sun” is a mixed bag. Without a strong protagonist, the play flounders. Diane Cary plays an actress in crisis but taking a part that Linda Lavin created is a killer. So the rest of the cast has to compensate. The convoluted plot that includes a quick gay romance and quick wedding is too severe a burden. Yet the authentic set and game cast make this a compelling theater piece. A few riveting theatrical moments in the second act almost make the show worthwhile. This was a preview so it’s possible that some kinks will be smoothed over by opening night. Silver has a theater voice and in these tumultuous times that may be enough to check out “Too Much Sun”. This actor in the below clip isn’t in the play at The Oddysey Theater but it will give you a taste of the dialogue.
