Nicky Silver’s “Too Much Sun” is a mixed bag. Without a strong protagonist, the play flounders. Diane Cary plays an actress in crisis but taking a part that Linda Lavin created is a killer. So the rest of the cast has to compensate. The convoluted plot that includes a quick gay romance and quick wedding is too severe a burden. Yet the authentic set and game cast make this a compelling theater piece. A few riveting theatrical moments in the second act almost make the show worthwhile. This was a preview so it’s possible that some kinks will be smoothed over by opening night. Silver has a theater voice and in these tumultuous times that may be enough to check out “Too Much Sun”.
