Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan make Mary Queen of Scots immensely watchable. Together they discover subtle emotional moments that elevate the movie from masterpiece costume epic predictability. The literate script is directed with a flare by Josie Rourke. The racially diverse cast ,gay characters and MeToo elements gives the film a timely universal feel without being preachy. The score is a complex evocative treasure.
