Boy Erased ferociously hit my tear ducts. This gay conversion film of the year gives Russel Crowe and Nicole Kidman a rare chance for them to play supporting roles to the hilt. The preacher and his wife, whose son played by Lucas Hedges is questioning his sexuality. Harrowing scenes at the conversion center build to an emotionally devasting climax. The tag at the end of the film preserves the integrity of the movie. Pop singer Troye Sivan is creditable as one of the residents. Joel Edgerton beautifully directs this complex adaption of the memoir by Garrard Conly.
