This film from Argentina  is based on the novel by Antonio Di Benedetto written in 1956, on Don Diego de Zama, a Spanish officer of the seventeenth century settled in Asunción, who awaits his transfer to Buenos Aires. This surreal and mythologic film challenges audiences to pay attention and absorb the atmospheric South American culture. This is a new way of observing empire colonization. The film transcends the historical genre brilliantly.
