Novitiate is an exceptional film about a 17 year old becoming a nun during the 1960’s when the Vatican issued new rules about the status of nuns and policy surrounding training. Melissa Leo nails the part of Reverend Mother in a performance that mesmerizes and brings a level of intensity, cruelty and ultimately empathy that lingers long after you leave the theater.
