Observations

My grandmother used to say it’s always cheaper to eat at home than at a restaurant. This sweet remembrance reminds me of her cooking specialties. Number one was strudel—the sweet apple and raisin filling wrapped in golden puff pastry made my mouth water. Number two was Tzimmes —a sweet savory side dish that includes the only time prunes are palatable to me. A Jewish stew perfect for Passover. Grandma Lillian was born in Manchester, England-came to America in 1921-quickly married had my mother Nita, and my aunt and uncle Shirley and Harvey. I inherited my passionate walking skills from grandma. She made walking and art despite an oversized bunion on her big toe. She lived until 93 which hopefully gives me a long-life span because on my father’s Blitz side-the flames burned out in their sixties. And my grandmother’s legacy of it’s always cheaper to eat at home, will never get outdated. Unfortunately I must end with–not only is it cheaper but it’s financially impossible for many of us to eat out.
