Shine On, Harvest Moon-

I’m always looking for songs that I can use in my plays or novels that are no long copyrighted. Since Shine On, Harvest Moon from the early 1900s, it would fit the bill. Of course, I’d have to figure out how the lyrics fit a character or scene.

I ain’t had no lovin’ since January, February, June or July
Snowtime ain’t no time to stay outdoors and spoon
So shine on, shine on harvest moon – for me and my gal

Let’s see, the scene would have to take place in a climate where there is snow. And the boy has to use the moon to help him confess his love. The use of ain’t doesn’t mean the character is not educated. I mean Aretha use the word in my favorite song of hers. Ain’t No Way and you would never accuse Miss Franklin of being anything less than a genius.

Moon has enough metaphor and simili’s to jump start my creative juices.
