Gangster Nation

Gangster Nation, written by Tod Goldberg, is the second in the series about a non-Jewish gangster posing as a rabbi in Las Vegas. This is a smart novel with lots of references to the Talmud. Somehow the protagonist-David Cohen (alias Sal Cupertine-Mob boss)-is made likeable despite his evil and monstrous actions. We get swept away by four plot lines-the FBI agent after Sal, a competing Mob after Sal, Sal dealing with life as a rabbi and finally Sal’s wife and child, who are awaiting his return.
