Cruising in Alaska is glorious way to pause and be off the grid for 7 days. Highlights were stupendous glaciers and fjords and hump back and killer whales. Having a king size bed and balcony were spine tingling surprises. Of course, my goal to gain the pounds I lost from chemo and radiation included a breakfast of oatmeal, lox and gluten free bagels, eggs over easy and pancakes every morning with lunch and dinner not far behind in my gluttony. Crème de le never tasted so supreme. But of all the treasures, the next to last day of the trip brought me to tears. My husband and I had met a lesbian at the glbtq+ meeting bar She was alone, overweight and depressed so we engaged in conversation. At breakfast the following morning we shared a table with Tina. Of course I bragged about becoming a writer after being an accountant and I salivated when she insisted I send her an audiobook of my last novel The Hermaphrodites. The seat next to her was empty and Tina told us her daughter was sleeping but would join us. Turns out it was the girl we met at the bar. Nice coincidence. When I returned to Los Angeles, I received an email from her mother saying how she enjoyed talking to us and making her daughter welcome. How could my eyes not leak? An excellent way to acclimate back to social media after the pause and break.
