Although this concert version of Randy Newman’s opera from thirty years had its last performance on September 29, 2024, I have some observations. This production boasted broadway performers-Reeve Carney and Javier Munoz and they delivered powerful performances along with the other cast members. Unfortunately, much of the music lacks any melody and its only in the second half where Randy Newman’s hooks are released. I can see why this show never had much life. It’s not commercial and the plot/book is incomprehensible.
