Monster of the American Cinema-Matrix

Monsters of the American Cinema at the Matrix Theater in Los Angeles, under the auspices of Rogue Machine, is a powerful play with a great performance by Kevin Daniels. Stephanie Schwartz, the scenic designer, has recreated a movie drive-in magnificently. The story of an African American man bringing up the son of his dead white husband is a gripping theatrical experience. Playwright, Christian St. Croix, brilliantly periodically uses monologues to flesh out the two character play. It is only in the last ten minutes that the play loses its way as Croix attempts to connect the horror cinema of the past to the themes of acceptance.
