April Fool’s Day observation

The prompt in my writing class today, in honor of April’s Food, was the laugh’s on me. My brain went to the same line from the song Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered, one of the classics in “Pal Joey”. This ditty written by Lorenz Hart is never performed in its entirety because it borders on obscene. The line about And worship the trousers that cling to him got censored due to prurient tastes. But when I checked google the line isn’t But the Jokes on me, it is He can laugh, but I love it. Although the laugh’s on me. As a closeted gay man, Lorenz Hart always found a way of expressing that part of his essence into his songs. The joke was never on him.
