Poem of the Week-Back

My back has been

A source of agony.

I wish I could laugh

When I told the cantor

At my temple

That I had a “bad back”, she said

“You shouldn’t make negative comments

 About your back

 As though it was

 A fulfilling a prophecy

Pain from my groin to my toes,

Numbness

Charley horses during sleep.

But the worst

Is the rigidness

About where I sit.

Once my back

Finds that sweet spot

It refuses to adjust to any changes.

I’ve had to return three cars

Because I twinged and throbbed

From being in a new position.

I sent back a new sofa

When it triggered agony.

Eventually I was told

By my  pain psychologist

That exaggerated pain signals

Were being sent to my brain.

Inflammation with no medical source.

Was this impacting my diva over the top writing also?

Understanding what was happening

Was a milestone.

At least I am not crazy.
