I’d seen this performance in the theater and when it premiered on the television but after surviving the pandemic, it took on new meaning especially Elaine Stritch’s interpretation of “I’m Still Here”. Elaine has no vocal training and you surely wouldn’t call her voice beautiful, but when she sings it will cause goosebumps. Her vulnerability is on full display when she tells us about losing the role in Golden Girl. At the end of the show, it is thrilling that she is able to take a corny cliché-ridden song from The Sound of Music and make it profound. (I Must have done something Good)
