Scrounging like a cat
wandering through the fallen leaves
looking for her kittens.
An orphan
Searching for a memory
Of mom.
Mom’s dementia caused her brain
To imitate a lost bird without a flock.
Cells causing accidents
Without adhering to the traffic lights
Of decision making.
After she died,
I found notes scattered
Through my condo
Where she wrote my address
As if a dancer repeating choreography
Until the steps were perfect.
She wanted the anchor
Of a sailboat
To know where she was.
I remember her well
