The first two episodes of Sandition on Masterpiece are a disappointing mess. Adapting an unfinished Jane Austen novel might sound promising on paper. Get Andrew Davies to write the teleplay and you should be in good hands. This turns out to be a poor man’s Downton Abbey. Don’t be fooled by the exquisite sets, remarkable costumes, and gorgeous actor and actresses. This is empty foolishness that hardly rises to the level of guilty pleasures.
