Mysterious Circumstances is a puzzling play about Sherlock Holmes fanatics. The razzle dazzle sets, and lighting can only so far as to distract you from the complicated plot line. Playwright Michael Mitnick based this theatrical event on a New Yorker article. I guess you could call this a “found” play. The issue of Arthur Conan Doyle trying to kill off Sherlock Holmes is a possible hidden explanation for the proceedings. Suicide or murder lingers in the finale. The lighting spoke dialogue adds sufficient confusion to keep you guessing “who did it”. I spoke to a nearby theater patron and he said it was his third viewing. Maybe that’s what it takes to figure this out.
